Inka history in Peru seems to dominate the tourist industry here. Therefore, we were very interested to find out that there were other more ancient civilizations to learn about, almost forgotten by mainstream tourism.
So to break the journey between Ecuador and Lima we stopped in at Trujillo to view the pyramids of the sun and moon that pre-date the Inka´s by as much as 500 year´s....pretty impressive!!
Trujillo main square - much like Arequipa and Cusco.
Sampling the local brew.
Soldiers marching on Trujillo independance day. Independance from what? We never found out.
Feliz Navidad at Trujillo.
Pyramid of the moon on the outskirts of Trujillo. It was built from clay bricks. Not the best of materials really !
Inside the Pyramid.
These ancient people were pretty artistic.
Temple of the Sun a couple of kms away.
Town square decorated for Xmas.
Sign in the local bus station....a reminder that disaster can strike at any moment.
The most luxurious bus ever...we left Trujillo and travelled south once again....
....didn´t get far though cos the protesters had blocked the road. A common happening across Peru and Bolivia.
