Hanoi, Vietnam

Capital of Vietnam's north, Hanoi, is a city with far too many motorbikes. The traffic noise as you walk the streets is deafening. The motorbike clogged ancient quarter, where we spent most of our time is filled with Vietnamese selling everything from paper lanterns to snake wine. There was even one guy selling a cooked dog. Its the crazyest city we've visited so far.

Main railway line south of Hanoi.

Its a challenge just crossing the road here.....survival of the fittest.

Traffic chaos! There seem to be no road rules. If you hear a motorbike horn, get out of the way quickly :-)

Hanoi Hilton jail.....now museum.

....A nasty way to go......

We added to Hanoi's traffic problems by taking a rickshaw ride to the lake.

Hanoi's must famous landmark....Thap Rua (Tortoise Tower) on the lake. Legend has it that there is a sword bearing golden tortoise swimming in the lake....we searched but sadly could not find it.

Suvi, excited to crossThe Huc Bridge to visit another temple :-)

Strange religious statue in the temple.

Those crazy Irish again, George and Ed, supping beer at street side bar whilst next door lady makes dinner.

New prize for 'worst toilet'' award at the streetside bar...I dont think this one had ever been cleaned, the stench was disgusting.

We shut our hotel room window after seeing this on a neighbouring balcony.

Old East Gate of the ancient quarter. Dog was for sale through and on the left :-)
Cleaning fish.......Morning view from the hotel lobby.

May Day celebrations at Lenin Park.

We got lazy and took the train around the park.

Typical street views.
