Vang Vieng - its all about the 'tubing'!
From Luang Prabang we took the 'VIP aircon' bus (8 hours) south to Vang Vieng. The amazing scenery en-route more than made up for the lack of aircon on the bus - the bus driver wanted an extra 10,000Kip ($1) from everyone on board to switch it on. The sooner you accept that your going to get 'ripped off' everywhere you go in Laos the better.
Vang Vieng, a small tourist town in the valley below mighty limestone casts was beautiful. The river was even more inviting, especially when you can float down all day in 'tubes', visit bars and & jump in from giant rope swings....brilliant, especially after a few beers.
Somewhere in rural Laos between Luang Prabang & Vang Vieng.
Typical farmers hut.
The school run.
Local gas station. After filling up here, our VIP bus driver could not re-start the engine. Luckily for us we had stopped on a hill so the bus could be bump started :-)
Suvi recovering from food poisoning on our balcony - contemplating a days tubing tomorrow.
Vang Vieng skyline - building site!
Lounging in a local resaurant after noodle soup.
Suvi, once again, making friends with locals.
