Canyon Country, Peru.

As well as mountains, mountains and more mountains, Peru also has some of the worlds deepest canyons. For some more physical punishment, we decided to trek into one of them, Colca Canycon, at mere 3100m depth at its deepest point. Here are some pics of Colca and around in the Arequipa region of Peru.....

Somewhere near Chavay at the top of Colca....big drop just behind!

In the middle of absolutely nowhere...3992m.a.s.l.

Suvi with Valerie, combating the effects of altitude with Coca tea.

High pass en-route to the canyon....Volcano's Misti and Chachani in the background. At this point we had the crazy idea to climb one of them later!

Desert creatures...the chinchilla we think.

Gormless but very warm...alpaca.

Shepperd and flock passing our hostel at Chavay.

Chavay tourist trap...some amusing dancing here though.

Chavay town square....spot the tourist...nice eagle!!

Later on above the canyon....

...the most amazing aerial display....

....these Condor's are massive.....

....up to 3m wingspan...here flying above glaciers over Colca.

Our Colca crew!

Time for some more physical punishment....

....starting our 1200m decent into Colca...

....pretty dusty down there...

...our little oasis at the canyon floor...target.

...taxi! ( not for us though :-)

...arrival in paradise....after all that dust, the lush oasis with swimming pool was a very welcoming sight.

Flowers and insects bloomed at the oasis!

Suvi not happy crossing this bridge at the canyon floor....necessary though to vistit the Inca Terraces on the opposing valley side!

Hilton 5*!

The Peruvian style Iittala candle design. No electricity in the canyon.

Sharing dinner with locals :)

On our way up... fantastic views of the Inca terraces on the other side of Colca.

Soaking our weary legs in a thermal bath... ahhhh.
