Mancora = Beach time in Northern Peru

We travelled by bus 18 hours from Arequipa to Lima (much needed 3 day pit stop for Suvis route canal) then 18 hours north again to Mancora and finally some warm sunshine. Coincidentally, our discovery of +30 degree heat in Mancora seemed to coincide with the first snows of winter in the UK and a cold snap in Finland where temps in Jyvaskyla reached minus 25 at night. Happy Days for us!
Mancora offered much needed beach time for Suvi, great waves and a taste of kite surfing for me.

Tasty coach snacks leaving Lima = Carters nuts

Some of the spectacular coastal desert north of Lima....Road balanced on the cliff edge much to Suvis dislike.

Finally the beach - our first accomodation in Mancora was about as close to the beach as you can get.

Dont look up! Low flying pelicans.

Peruvian Police training on Mancora beach - an amusing sight at breakfast.

View from the balcony at our second accomodation. Suvi applying for a job at Nokia from under the palm tree.

Huge swells at sunset.

Surfs up!

My turn.

Surfin dog - this local rasta dude turned out to be kite surf instructor......sweet.

Next day at the lagoon - kite flying lessons on dry land for the first couple of hours.

These kites are mega powerful. Have to be careful.

Second day - at last I can try with the board.

...great.....but a long walk back when your learning still.

Finally I was let loose on the ocean with a 10m kite....serious power.

Suvi getting creative with the camera.

No thoughts of how to get back, I just went for it.....brilliant! Need another go back in Blighty!
